It seems that studio execs are no match for movie pirates out there, operating on the unchartered water that is the internet. Creed 3 has become the latest victim of such piracy with the entire film having been leaked onto Twitter. The tweet is now unavailable and the account that posted it appears to be suspended, but the fact that it was on there at all has caused the film to trend.
Recommended VideosThe sixth movie in the Rocky franchise isn’t the first victim to fall prey to this, oh no, the Mario movie also received the same treatment last month when the full movie was uploaded and was on the social media platform for several hours before being taken down. In that instance, the video was simply removed and the user didn’t really seem to face any punishment, retaining their blue checkmark even after their illegal behavior.
In this case, however, it seems as if Twitter was able to react a little faster, with the account that posted the video @ToDanHD already having been suspended, it would appear. The ability to post entire movies is apparently the fault of the little blue checkmark, which allows those that have one to upload longer 1080p videos, up to 92 minutes in fact.
Creed 3 appeared to have only been on Twitter for a very short time, but users who were quick to cotton on to the fact made full use of it. Some questioned what on earth the movie was even doing on the platform.
Other’s simply commented on how crazy it was that it remained up for as long as it did.
Some made sure to get it in before the account suspension.
And many took advantage of the situation.
This user questioned the role the blue check had in allowing this to happen in the first place.
This shouldn’t really hurt the film in the long run, though it is embarrassing for both Twitter and Warner Bros. that it was so easily placed online. The film has already had its theatrical run, raking in an impressive $274 million, overtaking both Creed and Creed II. It may be some time before we can expect to see it on streaming services, with it being unclear where we will be able to go to get our hands on it as of right now.
